How to curb the Meanace of cultism in higher institution.
Cultism is a major problem in the Nigeria university . Since it's arrival not less than 2 million individuals has lost thier lives. The origin of cultism in Nigeria can be traced to the Seadog confraternity (a.k.a Pyrates), founded by Wole Soyinka and six others at the foremost University of Ibadan in 1952. The peaceful, and non-violent confraternity set up then, in the 1980s, metamorphosed into a secret cult whose activities have been characterized by some bizarre and violent activities. They no longer use it for peaceful protest rather it's been used for killing themselves. Last year(2019) has so many cases which amongst are; A 400l student of kogi state University was butchered in broad day light within the school premises. And also a 500l Uniben student shot in thier annual carnival and many others across Nigeria Universities. They are over 32 cultist groups in each and every Nigeria university. Cultism changing the names of Nigeria Universities in a negative way.
Cultism is defined as the activities or practices of a group of people with one common spiritual, religious or philosophical belief. The group of individuals involved in these practices is known as a cult. Over 30,000 deaths has been recorded so far since it's arrival.
It is shaping the way the masses see a certain university, for instance a prime time news showing about killings in a particular university, they would label everybody in the School a cultist , seeing it in the media will change thier views of everybody , even in the bus stations , they would trow shades at any student of an institution. And also change the rate of aspirant to the university " That school na cultism dey go there o" they would run from a certain school. Every parent want the best for his or her child , and to be on a safer side , they would want them to go to the best school which is very safe for them. However, some of the effects of cultism include loss of lives and properties, disruption of academic activities on campuses, unsafe university environments.
It is changing the name of Nigerian Higher institution, most higher institution are now known for killings, for us to project the good name of our university the Governments and school authority should Try as much as possible to be aggressive in eradicating it. Just has the Kogi state Governor Yahaya Bello who has ordered all institution head to stop it or they would loose thier jobs.
