Terrorist are not born- Umar Yakubu
Terrorism is a challenge to everyone ,it is one of the threat that is affecting the four conners of the World. Terrorism in Nigeria did not start with the Boko Haram, it has started since our Independence . According to research in 2014, Nigeria recorded over 484 incident , 1805 deaths and 1031 injured cases . Many more of the attacks has been in the North, North East and also has increased in most especially Born. However it also happens everywhere, places like mosque , churches or places of large gathering are being attacked. The most common Terrorist group in Nigeria are Boko Haram and Ausanu . Till date Nigeria has lost over 2 million lives despite the effort of the Government to curb it. These terrorist group has sustained its presence in the country. "You can't conquer a man who has conquer himself" this are the words of Julius Cesar.
Terrorism are usually complex and controversial, and, because of the inherent ferocity and violence of terrorism, the term in its popular usage has developed an intense stigma. It involves the use or threat of violence and seek to create fear , not just within the direct victim but among a wide audience. Their major aim is to destroy the public sense of security in places familiar to them ; the terrorist are familiar to their place of attacks, a Yoruba adage says "kókóró to je n efó , îdî éfó ló wà" which means "the ant that eats vegetables is under the vegetables" Terrorism creates social panic, an instance of a bomb blast in Borno would definitely creates some sort of fear on the people in the North be it Northwest or Northeast and the country as a whole.
However, terrorist are not born , no one gave birth to a terrorist , individual most at times are forced to join, they are victims of their circumstances, some of which are; Lack of education : a scholar once said "with a Gun you can kill terrorist and with Education you can kill terrorism". Once there's education, it would change.
Another important point is poverty; according to research Nigeria is the Poverty capital of the world based on population , overcoming India . Poverty has been on the increase , if you are poor ,it's likely you take any offer from any terrorist group , or terrorist friend .
And also No jobs;. The rate of unemployment in Nigeria is on the high, with over 40% of the youth unemployed and if they are not employed , any individual would be tempted to do any illegal job just to put food on the table .
Inequality/hatred ; if there's inequality, they would believe one person is inferior while others is superior, this could make an individual or group of people join or form a terrorist group. Hatred for a particular political party, tribe , ethnic group , religion can also make one go into terrorism and lots more.
It must be remembered that ,you can't wage war against terrorism , when war itself is terrorism, this simply means you can't use violence to solve violence . War is not the only way we can stop terrorism, we should learn how to stop it from the scratch , which is by providing adequate education for the masses , by providing shelter, enough jobs , and also introducing entrepreneurship programs that would help the masses in shaping their future and also provide maximum security for the people.
It is very important to deal with this threat, it has been a menace in the society and has been disturbing the peace of this country and the security of the nation since Independence .
