Cyber crimes and its adverse consequences
Cybercrime has increased sparingly especially amongst youths and old men around the world most especially in Africa. In Nigeria for instance, it is called Yahoo Yahoo ,419 and others , they use the new media and the aid of innovations like (laptops, phones ) to get it done. Cyber crimes came to limelight in the early 20s where an individual uses the internet to steal, trick or to get what does not belongs to him, cybercrimes is punishable by any government around the world, it's labelled "stealing by trick".
Cybercrimes according to (English dictionary) are crimes committed using a computer and the internet to steal person's identity ( using another persons name , picture or something else to get want he wants) or sell contrabands(selling unwanted / obscene drugs that are not for use to the public i.e marijuana, cocaine, weed e.t.c.) or stalk victims or disrupt operation with malevolent programs. It is a crime that has grown over time around the world, West Africa as a case study. A friend in the United states says, in most banks there, you will always find written boldly “Do not send money to Nigeria, Do not send money to Ghana , Do not send money to Kenya" and so on. It's because of the bad images we have shown in the past and now, many has been caught in the act here in Nigeria and in the world for these crimes.
It is mostly caused by some factors which are; Poverty: One of the major reasons for Cybercrimes is absolute poverty , not getting what you want and wished to have, which can easily led one to involve in fraud. Peers: an old Maxim says "show me your friend and I will show you who you are " friends has a lot to play in a life of any individual. We are influenced by friends either positively or negatively. If your friend is into cybercrimes and he's always showing off or giving you out of such money , there is every tendency that you also will end up involving yourself. Unemployment ; another reason is lack of job opportunities in the country , if there are no jobs which individuals can earn money, one would definitely find a means of getting and may look into Cybercrimes. A graduate in one of Nigerians top Universities with good grades and for close 4years who did not get a job, would have no other choice most at times involve himself in Cybercrimes.
There are many Consequences of cybercrime, among them are; Money rituals: Scientists will say "no two brains are the same" Some person due to the frustration from the cybercrime, maybe it didn't work for them would start looking for alternatives which is includes money rituals and are ready to do anything just to get it done, they can go the extent of killing their parents, or siblings. Theft; the love for money will make them go extra mile in getting it which can make them involve in armed robbery to ruin their fellow neighbors , students, rich fellows or close pals.
Cybercrime has been spreading from generations to generations, through innovations and the internet. It has no signs of stopping now or in future if the necessary steps are not taken to curb this menace. The government should try as much as possible to provide enough jobs for the masses so they could earn and be able to feed themselves and their families.
