Frank Lampard has been busy recruiting already this summer but has acknowledged the Blues need defensive reinforcements.
Chelsea will face competition for Torres from several leading clubs in Europe.
Both Manchester sides, Arsenal and Barcelona are among those reportedly in the hunt for the 23-year-old.
