Lampard: Abraham form not affected by contract talks
Frank Lampard does not believe Tammy Abraham’s protracted contract talks with Chelsea are behind his dip in form this year, writes Giuseppe Muro.
Abraham has been in discussions over a new deal since last year but progress has been slower than expected and he appears no closer to reaching an agreement.
Lampard said: “Tammy’s contract, we are not at a critical level with it. I will leave that between him and the club to discuss that side of it. I do not think that is in his mind now, well it certainly shouldn’t be.
"What needs to be in his mind now is these games coming up and how much he can give us on the pitch, whether he is coming on as a sub or starting.
"He has had a really good season. He has not scored so much in the second half of the season. As a young player it is clear there is only one way out of it, and that is work and repetition in training and every moment. That is where Tammy is at.
“The contract will hopefully look after itself between him and the club. He just needs to focus on giving us that Tammy we had earlier in the season, which was giving defenders so much of a problem in games and scoring regularly."
