Sports Owen Hargreaves fears Chelsea will still come up short in the Premier League next season

Owen Hargreaves has warned Chelsea could still come up short in the Premier League despite a major recruitment drive this summer.

The Blues have already added £53million striker Timo Werner and £33.3m winger Hakim Ziyech to the squad which finished fourth in the league last season.

Frank Lampard is also keen on £90m-rated Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.

But Hargreaves believes Lampard should be looking to improve other parts of his squad amid concerns over goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and their shaky defence.

He told BT Sport: I think he is a great young player, but they have a lot of them.

'They need some leaders. You want players who walk in and make your team.

'They could still finish 4th or 5th with Ziyech, Werner and Havertz.

'Havertz is special but they need to sort out the goalkeeper and centre backs first.

'When I think back to those great Chelsea teams, I think back to [Petr] Cech in goal, John Terry, [Claude] Makelele, [Didier] Drogba, the spine. Frank doesn't have that yet.
