This is Lieutenant General Sir Adrian Paul Ghislain Carton de Wiart.  This badass soldier served in the Boer War, First World War, and Second World War. In those wars, he was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; survived two plane crashes; lost one arm, tore off his own fingers when a doctor refused to amputate them, spent two years in Italy as a prisoner-of-war, and used seven months to make a tunnel through which he escaped from the prison.

During his retirement, Carton de Wiart had a freak accident where he while coming down the stairs, he slipped on coconut matting, fell down, broke several vertebrae, and became unconscious. As usual, he survived.

He received 23 military awards and died peacefully at age 83 on 5 June 1963.
